About Me:
What I do:
I am a psychotherapist in the Seattle area, in private practice and also at a community agency. You can check out my website at www.michellebales.com I hope to also teach basic level psych courses at a nearby college. I am certified as a white belt Nia instructor, but have yet to teach my first class. If you're unfamiliar with Nia, you can learn more about it at www.nianow.com Although I love what I do for a living, and try to live what I love in both my profession and spiritual life, what I actually do does not define me.
Other things I do include: being a cat mom (I have two little buggers), enjoying my relationships, and trying to be a good citizen of the earth.
I am a person who craves honesty and truth, wanting to live as authentically as I can. In doing so, I can tend towards the introverted and self-absorbed side to my personality. The world needs all of us to live according to our essential selves as much as possible, and that by doing so, we would have less hatred, war, injustice, and ugliness. We would also be more capable of seeing the beauty that is around us each day. That in and of itself can change ones perspective, if just by perception alone.
Interconnectedness, or interdependence. Our brains are programmed to be social. Lonliness and isolation lead to poor health (mentally & physically). We need each other. We are each other. What we put out there comes back to us. I love people. I like their stories, their ideosyncracies, and all the other stuff that make them human. One of the times that I felt most loved, was when a usually stoic friend called me upset for support for the first time in our 13 year friendship. That is love…a willingness to be raw and seen by someone that you love and trust. Love is a willingness to be loved, as much as it is to be loving. I'm still trying to figure that one out in many ways :}
I am a human…humbly. I can over-think, analyze, and 'cog-trip' for hours, but the truth still remains. Body-mind-spirit are all one intricately woven system that is perfect in it's construction, but often gets mispercieved and/or ignored. I am passionate about this subject and much of my advocacy work is in this vain. The pressure to interpret our naturalness in certain ways lies a cultural-systemic problem.
Why I'm at Zaadz:
~ To focus less on the cultural problems that frustrate me, and focus more on what I can do to irradicate them.
~ Get motivation from others who are following their passions, to continue growing personally and professionally.
~ Build a helathy and congruent business sense.
